Recent landslides threatened the road encircling Angel Island, a beautiful state park in San Francisco Bay. This road is vital for recreational activities and maintaining the park. Surveying on the island can be expensive and time-consuming, given the logistics of transporting equipment and laborers. When U&R offered its annual volunteer services to the State, grateful park superintendents gave us our dream job of surveying the road last October.
U&R took its large mobile survey office van, another vehicle, and needed equipment. State officials ferried our vehicles and staff to the island. They housed us there overnight. Three U&R survey crews worked simultaneously, processing data and plotting survey points from our mobile survey van. We completed the large survey in a day and a half … and had fun doing it!
